What is the American curriculum like?

The American curriculum is based on the American Common Core State Standards in English, Language Arts, Mathematics, History and Geography, and the Next Generation Science Standards. However, this plan can be adapted to the educational needs of each school.

This plan focuses on multiple intelligences and the development of each student’s individual talents, placing special emphasis on the cognitive, social and affective impacts they receive.

Stages of the American system

In the American educational system, there are several stages. Schooling, as in Spain, is not compulsory until the age of 6, although more and more elementary schools are also offering Pre-School education.

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten: ages 2 to 5 years old.

Elementary School: for students between the ages of 6 and 11 and runs from Grade 1 to Grade 5.

Middle School: from 11 to 13 years old, which involves Grades 6, 7 and 8.

High School: comprises the last stage and consists of Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12, i.e. students from 14 to 18 years of age.
