How are boarding schools in Spain?
The concept of “boarding school” has changed a lot over the last few years. Traditionally, a boarding school is an accommodation for children and teenagers, supervised and surrounded by strict rules and a lot of discipline. A place where parents threaten to take their children who misbehave or don’t get good grades in school. However, this concept of boarding schools in Spain is becoming increasingly obsolete in today’s society. What exactly is changing?
In the last few years, there has been a significant change in the way education is approached. Particularly, this change has been reflected in the field of boarding schools in Spain. The trend towards less strict and more comprehensive methods has been gaining ground, gradually displacing the traditional notion of punishment and severe discipline. In fact, studies have shown that physical or emotional punishment can generate resentment, stress, and negatively affect students’ academic performance and emotional well-being.
Instead of resorting to these methods, more and more educational institutions are adopting approaches based on understanding, effective communication and emotional support.. This includes encouraging self-expression, the development of social-emotional skills and peaceful conflict resolution.
Data on boarding schools in Spain
Recent data support this trend. For example, a study conducted by the Ministry of Education revealed that schools that implement educational practices focused on dialogue and mutual respect reported a decrease in incidents of disruptive behavior and an improvement in overall school.
Within this context of boarding schools in Spain, there is also a gradual change towards an approach that is more focused on the integral wellbeing of students. Modern boarding schools in Spain are prioritizing personal and academic development in an environment that fosters autonomy, responsibility, and emotional growth.

Instead of being seen as places of punishment or correction, boarding schools in Spain are evolving into spaces that offer individualized support and learning opportunities. In addition, the community and family environment fosters positive child development.
Last changes in boarding schools in Spain
At Casvi International American School, we strongly believe in this new approach to boarding schools in Spain. We step away from the traditional vision of a Boarding School.
Our main objective is to create a welcoming and enriching environment where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to reach their full potential both academically and personally. We work to encourage a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and individual growth.
As in all families, rules are necessary, but not everything is discipline. We encourage responsible autonomy and the development of life skills. Students are encouraged to express themselves freely, take responsibility, and actively participate in our community.
Our Boarding School offers not only a place to sleep and study, but also a wide range of programs and activities designed to enrich the experience of our boarding students. For example, every weekend, we offer sports and cultural activities. We are committed to providing an environment that stimulates the holistic growth of each student.
At Casvi International American School, we always try to make our students feel at home.
How is the boarding school at Casvi International American School?
We have a boarding school in Tres Cantos, on the school campus. Here, international students of different nationalities live together in a unique environment.
Within our spacious facilities, our students live together, explore their interests, and develop their talents in a familiar and trusting environment.
Life in both our men’s and women’s residence takes place in a safe and welcoming environment, where lifelong friendships are made. In addition, the students live an authentic English immersion, but at the same time, the foreign students improve their Spanish, thanks to the educators.
It is one of the few boarding schools in Spain that is located in Madrid in this position. Very close to the capital of Madrid and the heart of the city, but at the same time, in an environment of peace next to the mountains. This allows students to get closer to the city or go hiking in the mountains during the weekends.
Of course, all of them have full board (breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner), laundry and cleaning service, and a 24-hour medical service.
Benefits of our Boarding School in Spain
These are some of the benefits of living in a boarding school like Casvi International American School, which make them different from other boarding schools in Spain.
1. Cultural and linguistic immersion
One of the main differences with respect to other boarding schools in Spain is that students can interact with people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. This allows them to learn and grow through the exchange of ideas and perspectives. In addition, being located in an American school, students usually speak English, which favors their complete linguistic immersion.
2. Living with colleagues from all over the world
This coexistence helps students to better understand and appreciate different cultures, which can be very useful in an increasingly globalized world.
On the other hand, the residence provides a supportive community for students, especially those who are new to the city or country. Students make friends quickly, share experiences, and support each other during the adjustment process.
3. Integral development of talent and personal interests
In a safe and comfortable environment where students feel at home, children and teenagers can better develop their learning and personal growth. Our teachers and rest of the staff are in charge of helping students with everything they need. Not only do they help them with their studies and homework, but they also organize different activities and events to encourage coexistence and learning among them.
4. Personal growth project
Another difference with respect to the classic concept of boarding schools in Spain or Madrid is the focus on personal growth. Living away from home helps students develop independence and responsibility skills such as time management, organization and self-care. Students learn to be independent, through their experience and the help of their tutors.
Cultural and linguistic immersion Boarding vs. short stays abroad
Short stays abroad can be very beneficial to achieve the language immersion that parents are looking for in their children. However, sometimes such a short period of time is insufficient for children to experience true linguistic immersion.
The high price of a stay abroad also makes the option of a cultural and linguistic immersion boarding school a better long-term option. Your children could be speaking English 24 hours a day, without leaving Spain.
In our country, we have many international schools that, like Casvi International American School, have English as the language of instruction. A language that is further encouraged in their Boarding School. Children can make friends from different parts of the world and from different cultures in here. This, in turn, means greater linguistic immersion in English.
New facilities
In the near future, the center will build a new, larger boading school that will further differentiate this center from other boarding schools in Spain or Madrid. You will have a new dining room, more modern spaces, and everything you need to make your experience unique and remember it for a lifetime.
