The Art of Debate Takes Center Stage at CASVI

To celebrate Book Week, students in grades 8, 9, and 10 at Casvi International American School participated in an enriching debate activity focused on a highly topical issue: whether children under 16 should have access to social media.

The carefully organized activity divided the students into groups that were randomly assigned to defend positions for or against a given issue, regardless of their personal opinions. This format helped foster critical thinking, empathy, and the ability to argue a point.

Each match consisted of five rounds in which three members from each team took the floor to present and defend their ideas. The debates were evaluated by a jury composed of a teacher and one student, which provided a balanced and enriching perspective on the evaluation process.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony during which awards were presented, at which the efforts and talent of the participants in various categories: champion, runner-up, the best speaker, and the award for exemplary attitude in the debate.

Without a doubt, this initiative has been an excellent opportunity for students to develop essential communication skills, while at the same time, they reflect on a topic relevant to their day-to-day life.
