Family leisure activities in the Community of Madrid are evolving toward experiences that combine bilingualism, nature, and active learning. Madrid offers a cultural scene where English and Spanish intertwine, with international-themed activities to enjoy with children.
What are some things to do with kids in Madrid?
Every weekend of the week, the capital offers activities to do with kids that are fun and that contribute a unique value to their development. In addition, it features open-air recreational areas, such as theme parks or inflatable at most times of the year. Many families with an international profile often face the obstacle of the lack of depth pedagogical or the barrier of the language in these activities. The saturation of more “commercial” programs creates an impression of “repetition” of activities every end of week.
It is ideal that, in these family plans, the children maintain a balance between physical activity and contact with the natural environment, while ensuring there is a space for the parents in that same environment. During the school years, there are a large number of activities planned for children.
Local entertainment for all families
Madrid lets you visit a museum of avant-garde in the morning and surrounded by nature in the afternoon, all just a one hour away from. These are some of the plans for activities with children with an international and cultural focus:
Museums with an international flair: Thyssen-Bornemisza
Hiking Trails through the Sierra de Madrid
Climbing or adventure sports centers
The Triangle of Art isn’t just for adults; in some places, it becomes an interactive space to attract the attention of the youngest children.
Museums such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza offer special programs like “Educa Thyssen,” which includes family tours and often features bilingual guides. It’s a perfect opportunity for children to learn more about art and history and to experience different cultural activities.
The trails through La Pedriza or the Valle de la Fuenfría are a popular recreational activity in the summer, but we suggest doing it as early as spring. It is a plan popular among families, and almost a must-see destination if you live in Madrid.
These field trips are “lessons” of biology in the wild for the children, learning about the wildlife of the northern region. We recommend that you play games of “finding”, where you come up with ideas for two or three species of animals that are found in the Sierra de Guadarrama and make a ranking of who who finds the most animals from the list.
The boom in sports such as rock climbing is creating a sensation. There are centers specializing in Sputnik Climbing, which offer challenges for children, courses or classes for enjoying it as a family.
However, this type of activity isn’t for everyone, so there are other ways to exercise while having fun: jumping or obstacle course centers. Here, they develop their motor skills while having fun on mats with games built into the course.
What kinds of leisure activities are there in the summer?
The big question that arises after enjoying these experiences is how to maintain this level of stimulation during the summer break. This is where education goes beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. At Casvi International American School, we believe that learning shouldn’t stop in June. That is why our summer camps are designed as a natural extension of these high-quality recreational programs and bring together students from all three Casvi schools in one place, as well as any other child who wants to participate in the activities.
In addition, within our school schedule, we try to ensure that students have creativefreedom in their projects, allowing them to combine subjects such as mathematics with sports such as basketball. The curriculum for activities in sports, arts and music help them explore more about their own personality in a creative way at school.
On the other hand, there is another type of camps that choose to carry out activities with the children in places such as the Amusement Park, Warner Park, and other places known for leisure in Madrid.
