The importance of work-life balance in new mothers

For new mothers or mothers with young children, reconciling work and personal life is not easy. At this stage, the mental and emotional cost is very high. It is therefore important to learn to manage stress and enjoy motherhood. The first step to achieve this is to accept that motherhood is not a field of roses, but that sometimes there will also be stings.

For their part, experts offer a guide to help new mothers find a balance between their “mommy self” and their “working self”. Some of the tips contained in this guide for mothers are:

1. Organize and plan

Establishing a routine will help you maintain order in your daily life, as it will allow you to anticipate and plan the week’s activities more efficiently, although you should always have some flexibility for unexpected events-.

Agendas or calendars will allow you to manage your time more effectively. Planning ahead allows you to avoid conflicts and maximize your time.

In addition, identifying your priorities will make it easier for you to decide where you want to invest your time. However, the goals you set for yourself must be achievable and realistic. This way you will avoid frustration.

2. Open communication at work

According to experts, another tip, if you are a new mother or have young children, is to establish open communication at work. This can help you find solutions that allow you to balance both worlds. You should also set very clear boundaries between your professional and personal life. It is important that you learn to say “no” when appropriate. Don’t feel guilty about taking time away from your family or yourself. Rest is necessary to be able to give your best version as a mother and professional.

3. Look for support from other new mothers

It’s okay to seek support from family, friends or other women who are going through the same journey as you. Creating that circle of consultation and comfort can be very beneficial, especially if you are a new mother. On the other hand, delegate responsibilities to your partner or significant other. Remember that you are not alone in this new journey.

4. Practice self-care

Being a mother does not mean abandoning yourself. You need to listen to your body and observe your emotions, but, above all, take time for yourself every day. Do physical activity, as this practice releases endorphins and other chemicals that increase the feeling of well-being; read a good book that is not about motherhood or watch that series that you have been putting off for so long. Eliminate from your head the self-demanding and be flexible with yourself, you are not a superwoman, but that’s okay!

Lastly, remember: you are the most important. If you’re not well, your family won’t be either.

5. Simplify your life Simplifica tu vida

On the other hand, getting rid of things you no longer need will allow you to enjoy more of what really matters, since you won’t spend so much time on household chores. For example, you can set one weekend a month to do a thorough cleaning and throw away those items you no longer use.
