International education is one of the most important keys at Casvi International American School. Furthermore, it will also play a fundamental role in the evolution of education in the coming years.
The globalization that we are living, has obligated us to educate ourselves, work, relate and share moments with people from other cultures, beliefs, customs or languages. Therefore, we are facing global competition.
As stated in the PISA 2018 report, “global competence is the ability to examine local, global and cross-cultural issues to understand and appreciate other people’s perspectives and worldviews, to engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with people from different cultures, and to act for collective well-being and sustainable development.”
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published the Global Competency Framework in 2018, which compiles guidelines from international agencies that promote the development of competencies and the application of knowledge.
Twenty-first-century learners live in an interconnected, diverse and ever-changing world. This complex environment presents both an opportunity and a challenge. Therefore, today’s young people must not only learn to participate in a more interconnected world but also appreciate and benefit from cultural differences. They need to be able to develop a global and intercultural perspective, which education can shape.
Global competence is a multidimensional and lifelong learning objective. Examining local issues, understanding different perspectives and worldviews and acting in accordance with the collective welfare are aspects of an international school like Casvi Tres Cantos.
In terms of skills and attitudes, global competence is related to:
–Skills: critical and analytical thinking, empathy and flexibility.
–Attitudes: global awareness, social responsibility and respect for other cultures.
For this reason, schools have a fundamental role to play in developing this global competence. They must teach students to use digital information and social media platforms effectively and responsibly. They should also foster cultural sensitivity and respect for other cultures or languages.
