With the arrival of summer and school vacations, parents are looking for new ways to keep their children active and entertained. At this time of year, outdoor games for children become the best option to combine fun, physical exercise and learning without screens.
Why are outdoor games for children important?
Outdoor play goes beyond running or jumping, but has great benefits, according to several studies. Some of them are:
- Improves physical health: helps prevent sedentary lifestyles and promotes muscle and bone development.
- Stimulates creativity: in a natural environment, children invent games, explore and solve problems spontaneously.
- Promotes socialization: they learn to share, cooperate and resolve conflicts by playing with others.
- Reduces stress: contact with nature and exposure to sunlight raise vitamin D levels and improve mood.

Some options for children’s games that are not only fun, but also positively influence the development of their social, motor and cognitive skills are:
1. Treasure hunt. Organize an adventure in the garden or park with hidden clues. You can thematize it–pirates, dinosaurs, nature– and adapt the level according to the age.
2. Sack races. You only need large bags or pillowcases. and the desire to laugh. Ideal for parties, family reunions or evenings with friends.
3. Water balloon war. A summer classic. In addition to cooling off, children practice marksmanship, strategy and teamwork.
4. Obstacle course. Use cones, ropes, hoops or any object to create a course. They can jump, crawl, balance and more.
5. Outdoor painting. Transforms the garden into an outdoor art studio. To do this, place continuous paper on the floor and let the children paint with their hands, sponges or brushes. They can also use chalk to draw on the floor.
6. Hide-and-seek or”pilla- pilla”. Traditional games will always be a good option and, in addition, they have the advantage of adapting to any outdoor space.

7. Gardening for children. Planting seeds or caring for flowers is relaxing and educational. They learn about the cycle of life, responsibility and patience.
